Creating Change. One Conversation At A Time.
Danielle Nelson, LCSW
How I Got Here
I finished my undergraduate degree in New Orleans, months following Hurricane Katrina. My first job out of college was as Volunteer Coordinator for the Orleans Public Defenders.
In my work, connecting clients with the right litigators, I learned giving someone in distress the space to say what's on their mind without judgment or advice provided immediate relief, broke tension, and made room for the "real work" to get done.

Later, working as a producer for PBS and a communications director for a film development non-profit,
I observed the same truth:
people have a deep need to be heard and understood.
When the grant that funded my final position ended,
I committed to building on what I'd learned.
I moved to California to pursue a Master of Social Work.
Initially, I worked as a therapist in a group home for parenting foster teens. From there, I transitioned to a role as a therapist at a patient-centered university hospital, where I provided counseling in the areas of reproductive health, trauma, bereavement, catastrophic illness, and crisis intervention. I remained in that position for 7 years, leaving in 2020 to pursue my dream of running my own business.

Today, I run an inclusive, intersectional, and progressive private practice based in California and Louisiana. In addition to providing evidence-based therapy for
individuals and couples of all backgrounds,
I also write a monthly advice column, Our Lady of Good Counsel, for New Orleans-based Antigravity Magazine.

While I continue to learn how be a meaningful ally and advocate for marginalized communities, my clinical focus is
de-stigmatizing mental health limitations by helping others
shake off the shame, guilt and negative thinking
that slows down personal growth.
You're the expert on your life.
My job is to listen compassionately and offer support in
helping you identify, process and achieve your goals.
